Abstract

656,498. Compressors. LAVIGNE, J. Oct. 5, 1948, No. 25964. [Class 8(i)] A hermetically sealed compressor-electric motor unit comprises a fluid-tight casing 3 containing a flexible bellows 4 which divides the casing into two separate parts enclosing the electric motor 1 and the compressor 2 respectively, the transmission of movement from the electric motor to the compressor being effected by means of a rod traversing said bellows in a fluid-tight manner. The upper part of the casing 3 is removable to gain access to the electric motor without opening the compressor enclosure. A pressure is maintained in the casing 3 equal to the mean of the compressed fluid. The casing 3 may be filled with an inert, gas having a relatively high thermal conductivity. In a modification the compressor is connected to the motor through a U-shaped rocking lever and one end of the bellows is secured to the lever close to the axis of articulation.
