Abstract
604,098. Fluid - actuation of switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1945, No. 31729. Convention date, Feb. 10. [Class 38 (v)] A switch is actuated by a double-bellows structure, comprising a bellows 22, which is evacuated, sealed, and contains springs 28, 29, and one 25 which is connected internally, through a passage in one end plate 27 and a chamber 34, to a pressure source, e.g. an aircraft engine intake manifold. The bellows 22, 25 are secured together at their end-plates 24, 26, and fastened to a lower part 20 of the housing by screws 38, the interior of the housing being connected to a second pressure source, e.g. an aircraft air scoop. The springs 28, 29 are initially compressed against lugs 82, 83, when the housing part 60 is assembled. The switch 51 is adjustable relatively to its actuating stirrup 31, 49, secured between the plates 24, 26, by loosening the securing screws 54 and manipulating a further screw (not shown). The device may be adapted for summer or winter use by adjustment of a control spring 47 by means of a screw 42. Examples of the pressures at which the switch may be operated, and of the relative effective areas of the bellows necessary to attain these pressures are given with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown).
