Abstract

656,082. Pallets for handling loads. TATE & LYLE, Ltd., and LYLE, A. Jan. 3, 1949, No. 51. [Class 78 (iv)] A stillage or pallet has a platform to which is secured a plurality of hollow metal cans arranged with their axes vertical and in rows spaced apart to provide intervals for the entry of a fork of a fork lift or pallet truck. As shown, a platform 1 of light gauge metal, wood, plywood, fibre-board or other sheet material, which may be pressed to form stiffening panels or corrugations, has secured to it by welding or other means a plurality of cylindrical lever lid cans 3 with their bases directed towards the panel. The cans are arranged in three rows each of two cans, leaving spaces 4 for the forks of a lift truck. The cans may be such as are rejected as containers because of lack of tightness in the seams, and they may be filled with sand or concrete to provide additional strength. Sanitary cans may be used instead of lever lid cans.
