Class 78 (4) The four-way entry pallets illustrated are stacked by means of not more than two tiering posts on each pallet and lugs projecting horizontally beyond the loading surface of each pallet. In the construction of Fig. 1 the outer beams 1 project beyond the platform 2 at both ends and each carries at one end a bracket 5 supporting a tiering post 6 and at the other end an angle-iron lug 4. When stacked each pallet is supported at one end by engagement between the brackets 5 and the tiering posts of the pallet below and at the other end by engagement of the lugs 4 with either the outer beams 1 of the next pallet or with fixed brackets 7. The forks of a fork truck or stacker may be inserted between the outer and inner beams 1, or at right angles to the beams in the clearances between the bottom planks 3. In an alternative construction in which each pallet has two tiering posts upstanding from the platform and suitably, braced, each pallet is supported when stacked by angle-iron lugs on the upper ends of the posts of the pallets below, the pallets at one end of the stack being supported by fixed brackets. In the construction of Figs. 4 and 5 each pallet has only a single post 6 inch of angle section and carrying at its inner end a plate 10 formed with ribs 11. Each plate 10 serves to support a corner of each of four pallets as indicated in Fig. 5. Supports are provided, in this form of the invention, for the pallets forming two sides of a stack.
