Abstract

696,214. Pallets for handling and stacking loads. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. June 22, 1951. [March 22, 1950] No. 7123/50. Class 78 (iv). The feet of a four-way-entry pallet comprise at least one pair of rigid metal feet 11 (Figs. 1 and 4) of channel section depending from the base 10, the two sides 13 of each foot defining an opening for an arm of a fork truck. In the pallet of Fig. 1 the channel-section feet 11 are formed with corrugations 17 (Fig. 3) and with flanges 14 by which they are welded to the platform 10. The feet at opposite sides of the pallet are aligned so that the tines of a fork truck may each pass through two aligned feet, and the walls of the feet are sufficiently closely spaced to limit lateral movement of the pallet relatively to the arms. In the alternative construction of Fig. 4 two channel-section feet 11 extend across the under side of the load platform 10 and their walls 13 are provided with aligned apertures 18 to provide for four-way entry. The load platform 10 is preferably formed of spaced superposed metal sheets connected together. Walls may be fitted to the load platforms 10 : the upper edges of such walls are preferably reinforced along their upper edges to permit pallets to be stacked one on top of another.
