Abstract

777,986. Pallets for handling and stacking loads. SMITH, S. H., SMITH, C. D., SMITH, R, SMITH, E., and SMITH, K. Jan. 2, 1956 [Jan. 17, 1955], No. 1318/55. Class 78 (4). The shouldered tiering posts 10, Fig. 3, of a pallet are received within tubes 5 carried by the pallet and each carrying a cup 7 at one of its open ends. As illustrated, each tiering post 10 comprises a metal tube 13 secured within a tube 12 so forming a shoulder 14 which abuts on the upper edge 15 of the tube 5. The cup 7 is welded to the lower end of the tube 5 which is thus guided to rest on the plain upper end of the tiering post 10 of the pallet next below in a stack. Each tube 5 is welded to a pair of spaced plates 6 which are bolted to the end bearer 2 of the pallet. In an alternative construction the cup 7 is welded to the upper end of the tube 5 and the shouldered portion of the tiering post 10 is carried by its upper end to engage in the tube 5 from beneath.
