655,345. Variable-pitch propellers. AALBORG VAERFT AKTIESELSKABET., and KJAER, V. A. Sept. 1, 1947, Nos. 24124 and 24125. Convention dates, Feb. 4, 1946, and March 9, 1946. [Class 114] A hydraulic reversing gear for variable-pitch propellers is provided with a relief valve 1 in a liquid supply line 4, provided with a supplementary piston 38 adapted to be subjected to liquid-pressure tending to open a valve 37 to byepass the operating liquid through an outlet 39 when the pitch-changing mechanism is inoperative, and to be relieved of pressure to allow the valve 37 to close and a high pressure to build upon the line 4 when the reversing gear is in operation. Operation of the reversing gear is controlled by a slide valve 16 which by means of a land 20 controls the supply and relief of pressure to the piston 38 through a pipe 36. The valve 37 may have a cylindrical extension (Fig. 3, not shown) to delay its opening and consequently the fall in pressure to allow the blades to make their full movement before returning the valve 16 to its neutral position through hunting gear (Fig. 2, not shown).
