Abstract
636,402. Variable pitch propellers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. March 3, 1947, No. 5973. Convention date, April 17, 1946. [Class 114] A pitch stop device for a hydraulically operated propeller is moved to its inactive position hydraulically. The pitch - changing piston 32 carries with it the sleeve 66 until its surface 94 engages the stops 68. To proceed past this limiting position hydraulic fluid at higher pressure than the normal operating pressure is led through the line 46 to unseat valve 100 and thus to move piston 90 to the right. A wedge block 84 is thus moved from between the stop hooks, and these are then pressed inward by the surface 94. The operative position of the stops is adjusted by screwing sleeve 38 into or out of the sleeve 70. In modifications the stops are attached to and adjusted relative to the dome 36 or the stops engage the sleeve 38 on its movement to the left.
