Abstract

632,513. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. WATSON, C. D., and MANSELL, R. C. S. March 10, 1947, No. 6693. [Class 135] A follow-up valve for a hydraulic jack, suitable for operating aircraft wing flaps, comprises a main valve-member arranged for linear displacement in a ported cylinder, the displacement of said member being controlled by an axially-displaceable servo-valve member which controls the application of pressure-liquid to alternative reaction faces of the main valvemember and which, when displaced axially, also rotates. Rotation of an input shaft 47 gives an axial and rotational movement to the servo-valve 17 through bevel-gears 46, 45 and a screw 42, the latter being splined to the gear 45 and engaging a relatively-fixed nut 44. This movement of valve 17 allows pressure liquid, from an inlet 13, to act on one end or the other of the main valve 15 which slides on valve 17. The valve 15 moves to centralize itself with respect to the valve 17, and connects the lefthand face of the jack piston 10 to pressure or exhaust. The subsequent axial movement of piston 10 imparts rotary motion to a shaft 48 through a screw-and-nut or pin-and-slot, and this rotary motion is transmitted through bevels 49 ... 52 to nut 44. Since screw 42 is now held against rotation by the shaft 47, the valve 17 is given a recentring axial movement which is followed up by valve 15. The righthand face of piston 10 is permanently loaded by pressure-liquid from the inlet 13. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 636,679.
