Abstract

654,800. Drying hides &c. BRYANT, Ltd., F. S., BRYANT, R. S., and BUCKLEY, G. E. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29231. [Class 34(ii)] In apparatus for drying hides &c. in which the hides are stretched on frames 12 slidable on rails 9 into a drying chamber 2 the latter is heated interiorly by individual electrical heating devices so wired that a proportion may be switched off while maintaining even distribution of heat. As shown the heating devices are infra-red lamps 22 wired up to separate switches in spaced pairs. The leading ends of the frames 12 have attached thereto lids 27 furnished with handles 28, catches 19 and sealing strips on the edges of the lids 27. The rails 9 extend outside the chamber and have between them footboards 8 forming a platform for an attendant. Air is withdrawn through outlet 25 into duct 24 and returned to the chamber by a fan through inlet 26 for recirculation.
