Abstract

654,647. Textile fibre drafting rollers. COURTNEY, E. J. April 15, 1947, No. 9973. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1946. [Class 120(ii)] [Also in Groups V, VIII and XXVIII] A textile drafting roller consists of two end discs 9, 10 having flanges 14 whose edges 17 are turned inwardly so that when the two discs are clamped together the edges grip the sides of a cover 6 which comprises an inner incompressible reinforcing layer 11 and an outer compressible layer 12. The inner layer 11 may be formed of fibres impregnated and bonded with a phenol-formaldehyde. resin and shaped to an incompressible tube which resists deformation by axial pressure. After coating the inner layer 11 with a reactive phenol-aldehyde. resin, a rubber hydrochloride cement, or a corresponding binder, a thin sheet of facing material is wrapped around until the desired thickness has been obtained. The cover is then wrapped with tape and cured, following which the tape is removed and the surface ground to shape. The facing material forming the outer layer 12 is, preferably, a synthetic rubber composition containing cork granules (see Group V). Specification 627,516, is referred to.
