Abstract

654,065. Hoppers. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21498. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1946. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Groups V, XVIII and XXIX] Powdered moulding material falls from a hopper 300 into a measuring device (see Group XVIII), comprising a rotatable tube 313, from which the material drops through a valve 359 into a hopper 360. The valve is opened and closed by a lever 366, the upper edge of which has a knife-edge to prevent material resting on it. After the valve is closed, the material is blown by compressed air, supplied either from a pipe 377a or a pipe 377b, through a pipe 378 to an upper heating chamber. Whether the pipe 377a or the pipe 377b is used, depends on the nature of the material. Any dust-laden air escaping past the valve 359, is removed through a pipe 376 to a dust collector 375.
