In an automatic weighing machine for automatically weighing powdered and like material the weighing mechanism is enclosed in a casing and a fan a or other means introduces into thecasing through a filter f an air stream of pressure higher than atmospheric to obviate the intrusion and settling of dust on the mechanism. The fan may be driven by a belt c from an electric motor d actuating the control mechanism and may cool the motor. The air finally escapes to atmosphere through apertures in a partition of the casing after traversing the control mechanism. In place of the fan an external blower or supply of compressed air controlled by a valve in the casing may be used.
