Abstract

653,044. Load-levelling systems. RHEOSTATIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 2, 1948, No. 28438. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electromagnetic switch controlling a water heater or other auxiliary load in a loadlevelling system comprises an armature 12 co-operating with a yoke 11 carrying a winding 7 through which passes the main load current, the tail 17 of the armature opening contacts 4, 5 in the water heater circuit when the main load current is of such value as to cause the armature to be attracted to the yoke. This value may be varied by adjustment of a spring 13 which tends to separate the armature and yoke, or by an adjustable stop 14 controlling the initial air gap between the armature and yoke. A screw adjustment 16, provided on a spring strip 15 carrying the contact 4 and through which the tail 17 actuates that contact, determines the value of the main load current at which the armature releases to re-connect the water-heater.
