Abstract

611,817. Automatic circuit-breakers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 9, 1946, No. 14036. Convention date, May 9, 1945. [Class 38 (v)] A trip means suitable for the automatic circuit-breaker described in Specification 611,686 comprises a magnetic core 63 and armature 65 carried by, respectively, a bimetal strip 45 and a resilient member 69, which is secured to the strip at 73 and carries a latch 67. The operating point of the bimetal strip is adjustable by a screw 85, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, and is independent of the setting for the electromagnetic trip, which is for dealing with short-circuits. In Fig. 3, the armature carries the latch 115, and is pivoted to the core at 109, an adjustable spring 117 controlling the setting. The armature may, alternatively serve as a latch, and be pivotally supported in a yoke secure to the core, the armature normally resting against a stop provided by a bendable part of the yoke.
