Controlling, actuating; master control systems, electromagnetic. - In a control system for an electric motor with shunt field regulation, the starting and regulating controller, which may be constituted by a cross-head contact-member 15, 16 sliding over resistance contacts 20, 26, is operated by an auxiliary motor 10 in circuit with an automatic overload switch 12. The current coil 19 tending to open the automatic switch is maintained at uniform strength, during normal starting, either by varying resistance in circuit with a counter-coil 27 as shown, or by a variable diverter resistance to the coil 19. The auxiliary motor 10 is controlled by push-buttons 8, and in the example shown has two armature windings for accelerating and slowing-down respectively, the automatic switch being connected only to the accelerating winding. The invention may be employed in a system of the kind described in Specification 109,890.
