Abstract
651,921. Stuffing-box substitutes. FREDERICK, S. H., and PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. June 9, 1949, No. 17994/48. [Class 122(v)] In a labyrinth gland comprising fins made of a relatively strong material furnished with a tip b of other material which will readily be rubbed away or disintegrated on contact with a member c moving relatively thereto, the fins are machined after the fitting of the tip b or tips b to fin backing elements a. The tips b, e.g. of brass, may be attached by electrolytic deposition, metallic spraying, arc or gas welding.
