569,864. Stuffing-box substitutes. MORGAN CRUCIBLE CO., Ltd., and LYDDON, P. E. Oct. 22, 1943, No. 17440. [Class 122 (v)] A labyrinth seal comprises members 3, 5 on relatively rotating elements, having co-operating radial surfaces, one of which, 3, is of carbon or other material wearable or definable under pressure of fins 9 provided on the other surface. The carbon, &c., rings 3 may have recesses 10 into which project rings 11 on the member 5, provided with fins 9. In addition radial fins 13 may be formed in the member 5 to co-operate with the bores of the carbon rings.
