Abstract

847,720. Stuffing-box substitutes. CRANE PACKING Ltd. May 14, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 16294/58. Class 122 (5). The width of the sealing contact face C of a rubbing-collar type seal-ring, is varied circumferentially. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2 two diametrically-opposite symmetrical recesses A eccentric to the ring bore B are formed in the face C. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), three equiangularly-spaced recesses eccentric to the bore B are formed in the face C and in a further modification, Fig. 5, the outer peripheral edge E1 of the face is formed by three equi-spaced arcuate walls e of equal radius connected by arcuate walls f of larger radius, the centre of curvature of the walls being coincident with the axis of the bore B.
