Abstract

<PICT:0651895/III/1> <PICT:0651895/III/2> <PICT:0651895/III/3> <PICT:0651895/III/4> A plate whirler has a tub and includes a double hinged cover for the tub, means for counterbalancing the sections of the cover hinged together and means for maintaining said hinged cover sections at a minimum low level in the opening movements of the same. Referring to the drawings, the cover comprises three sections, stationary section 10 affixed to tub 11, intermediate section 12 hinged to section 10 by leaf hinges on top of these sections and front section 13 hinged to section 12 by hinges 15 on the undersides of these sections. Front section 13 is lifted in parallel with the horizontal by positioning link 16 pivoted at 17 to fixed strut 18 and at 19 to lever 20 fixed to top of section 13. Counterbalancing weights 23 and 24 control the lifting and foot pedal 33 may be used to close, or hold partially open, the cover. Ventilating and drying means may comprise ventilating louvres 40, heater and blower 41 and a flaring hood 42 for projecting heated air down through the top of cover section 10 (Fig. 10).
