IMPROVEMENT IN JEWEL-GASKETS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,106, dated April 30, 1878; application filed February 9, 1878.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY BERRY, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in J ournaled Gaskets for Jewels and other articles and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side View of my casket, partly in section, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in jewelry-cases; and the nature of the invention consists in a box rotating in a suitable frame, and having a hinged lid connected flexibly with said frame, and provided with a catch adapted to engage the same, whereby the rotation of the casket or box is made to open the lid, and the engagement of the catch with the frame to hold it open, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates a box of any suitable material, form, and dimensions, and provided with a hinged lid, B. This box is journaled horizontally in a suitable frame, A, and its lid is connected by a chain or other coupling, 8, with a figure, 0, supported by the said frame, so that when the box is rotated away from the figure the lid is drawn open and the contents of the box exposed. This box has on its front ahandle, I), from which is suspended a ring, a, which engages a spur, 1), upon the front of the frame when the box is rotated in the act of opening the lid. Being thus engaged, the box is held stationary with its lid thrown back, for the reason that the handle overlies the frame, and the ring is connected to the same.

In lieu of the ring and spur, respectively,

on the box and its supporting frame, I may use any other of the catches well known to those skilled in the art.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isa The combination, with the frame A, of a box journaled therein, its hinged lid flexibly connected with the said frame, and a retaining-catch, substantially as specified.
