Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW A. LOETSOHER, OF DUBUQUE, IOIVA.
STORM-SASH FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,408, dated March 31, 1896.
7 Application filed January 21, 1896. Serial No. 576,303. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW A. LOETSCHER, of Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storm-Sash Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to devices for fastening storm windows, screens, or shutters to a window-casing; and the object is to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive fastener and which may be quickly and easily operated from the inner side of a room, so that a screen may be placed in position or removed with very little trouble.
I will describe a fastener embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 shows fastening devices embodying my improvement as attached to a sash. Fig. 2 is a front View of the fastener, drawn on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a back view thereof. Fig. 4 is a side view thereof, and Fig. 5 is a front end view.
The fastener comprisesa block Acentrally perforated for the passage of a pivot on which the block turns, and it is provided with a lever or handle a. Extended partially around the block is a cam-flange a. Froma central opening a the flange is inclined toward the sash side of the block and the ends terminate in depressions a and shoulders or stops 0..
Pins or lugs A are secured to the windowcasing A in such a manner as to extend in the transverse direction of the casing.
In use one or more fasteners may be attached to the inner face of each side rail of the sash A When securing a sash, the same is placed against the outer surface or jamb of the casing, then by takinghold of the handles a and holding them in the transverse line of the sash the pins A are to be passed through the openings a and obviously upon turning the fasteners in either direction the cam-flanges engaging the pins will cause the sash to be drawn tightly against the frame. As the pins will enter the depression a the said depressions will form keepers to prevent the fasteners from turning accidentally to a releasing position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A sash fastener, comprising a block adapted to be pivotally connected to a sash, a flange on said block inclined in opposite directions from a central opening, a handle opposite and in line with the opening in the flange, and a pin or lug designed to be attached to a window-casing for engagement with the flange, substantially as specified.
2. A sash-fastener, comprising a rotary block having a handle, a cam-flange on the block, said flange having an opening at its central portion and having keeper depressions at its opposite ends, and a pin or lug for engagement with the flange.
