659,620. Stays for hinged articles; hinges. SANDLAND, G., (trading as DEAN & SANDLAND). Feb. 2, 1949, Nos. 2833/49 and 2310/50. [Classes 65(i) and 65(ii)] In a jointed folding stay for a perambulator hood, one of the arms of which is provided with an offset handle for extending the arms into the hood stretching position, the joint is provided with a pad adapted to exert frictional pressure between the jointed elements of the arms. Flanges 6, 7 and 8, 9 are formed on the arms 1 and 2 respectively, and a friction pad in the form of a rubber washer 12 is interposed between the innermost flanges and placed under compressive stress by the pivot pin 3. The washer is arranged between a pair of shallow cups 12a and 13, the latter of which has a radial leg 15 which engages in the arm 3. A projection 18 on the flange 6 engages in a semi-circular slot in the adjacent flange 8. The washer may alternatively be made of leather or felt, and the semi-circular slot may be substituted by an equivalent groove.
