Abstract

651,444. Circular saws; grinding. PALMER & CO. (LEICESTER), Ltd., and PALMER, W. T. Sept. 11, 1948, No. 23922. [Classes 60 and 145(ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A woodworking machine has the tool spindle mounted in one bearing, where the tool performs its normal work, and the bearing is so constructed that the spindle may be easily removed to another bearing in a different part of the machine where it performs other work. Shown applied to a circular saw, the saw spindle 13 driven by a flexible shaft 42 and carrying the saw 23 is mounted for cross-cutting in a bearing 12. The locking screws 17 may be released and the hinged cap 15 swung downwards to release the spindle so that it may be fitted in a similar bearing 19 mounted in a saw table 8 and the saw then used for ripping. The saw may be replaced by a sanding wheel or a drilling attachment fitted to the spindle.
