Abstract
651,063. Jointing pipes to plates. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Sept. 27, 1948, No. 25187. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1947. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Group XXI] A pipe 13 is supported in a fluid-tight manner within and spaced from an outer member, such as a casing, by an annular member A which has an upwardly-facing, outwardly - tapered bore and a co-operating packing B therein, the packing having radially arranged segments 14 each provided with an inner toothed face 16 and an outer wedge-shaped face 15, and the segments being secured together, e.g. by bonding, by a readily deformable material 18. such as rubber, which covers at least part of the inner face of each segment. As shown, the packing B is formed with handles 19 and has openings adjacent teeth 17. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), a plate is bolted to the member A and is threaded to receive screws adapted to bear against a washer in contact wth the packing.
