Abstract
651,044. Bottle opening. BLACKBURN, R., and EMBELTON & CO. PROPRIETARY, Ltd., G. P. Aug. 6, 1948, No. 20851. [Class 125(ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] The hollow body member 2 of a bottle closing and opening device, for vessels containing liquids bottled under gas pressure, has a recess 3 surrounded by a flange 4 adapted to fit the top of the usual crown seal 6 and containing a sealing ring 8 the seating of which may have circumferential ribs 9. The recess 3 communicates with a discharge passage 19 and a passage 21 extending to the exterior through a spout 22, and the passage 19 has a valve 23 held closed by a spring 28 and opened when required by a push button 27. To give access to the inside of the bottle the valve head has a point 32 which pierces the crown seal when the push button 27 is pushed down. Arms 12 spaced round the outside of the body 2 have claws 13 to fit under the crimped skirt 14 of the crown seal and these claws have grooves 16 to receive a split spring ring 17 accommodated in a circumferential groove 18. The claws 13 are held engaged by the spring ring and may be released by pressing inwards the upper ends of the arms 12, whereby the device may be removed from the bottle.
