Abstract

320,707. Murdock, J. A. Aug. 7, 1928. Stoppers with valves.-A dispensing-top for a. bottle containing aerated liquid and having a closure cap 2 crimped over the mouth thereof comprises a base portion 4 formed with an internal chamber 5 and provided with a packing ring 6 adapted to engage the cap when the top is secured thereto by means such as lugs and a locking bail 21 which engage beneath the flange 3 of the cap. The chamber 5 is cut off from an inclined channel or spout 9 by a valve 17 secured to a pointed rod 13 which is held in a raised position by a spring 15 disposed between the head 14 of the rod and the bottom of a recess 11 cut in the upper portion 7 of the top. When the head 14 is thrust downwards, the rod 13 pierces the cap 2 and the contents of the bottle may be discharged through the aperture thus made. Normally the spring 15 maintains the valve 17 in contact with an annular projection 10 on the inner end of the channel 9 and prevents loss of gas from the liquid.
