Abstract
650,518. Load-handling machines. BAKER, G. T. Oct. 29, 1948, No. 28173. [Class 78 (iii)] In a loading machine including a portable frame and a pair of lifting arms pivoted to one end of the frame, the arms are raised and lowered by a pair of fluid cylinders mounted on opposite ends of a transverse shaft on the other end of the frame, each piston of which is pivotally connected to two arms, one arm having its other end pivoted to the free end of the corresponding lifting arm and the other arm having its other end pivoted adjacent the pivot for the lifting arm. A tractor frame 15 is provided with brackets 42 at the front which mount the transverse shaft 41 supporting cylinders 39. The rear axle 19 has plates 26, 28 clamped to it by means of bolts 29, each plate 26 having two pairs of ears for pivotally supporting a lifting arm 21 and an arm 48 respectively. The piston rod 44 of each fluid cylinder is provided with a short cross-bar 46 to the two ends of which the arm 48 and an arm 53 are respectively pivotally connected. The remote end of arm 53 is pivoted to an upstanding bracket 56 on the outer end of the arm 21. A scoop 36 is pivotally mounted at 38 between the ends of arms 21 and is balanced so as to return to load-carrying position after discharging. It is shown in load-carrying position where it is locked by a catch which is withdrawn to allow the weight of material to cause tipping. A hand lever 74 is linked to operate the catch. Further details of the scoop appear in Specification 650,517. Fluid is admitted to the bases of the cylinders to cause lifting of the arms 21. Arms 48 and 53 remain substantially perpendicular to each other during lifting.
