Abstract

676,365. Scoop arm load handling machines. WEATHERILL, F. July 26, 1950. [April 26, 1949] No. 11040/49. Class 78 (iii). [Also in Group XXI] In a mechanical shovel or excavator, side frames 12 are secured to either side of the chassis of a self propelled vehicle and to the upper ends of the vertical limbs of the frame are pivoted a pair of side arms 13 between the outer ends of which is pivotally mounted a scoop 14. The arms 13 are rotated by hydraulic jacks the rams 15 being connected by universal couplings 36 to brackets 17 formed on the side arms 13 whilst the cylinders 32 are mounted intermediate the ends thereof on the frame 12 in universal mountings 16 which are situated below and to the rear of the pivotal axis of the arms 13. The angle of the scoop is adjusted by a double-acting hydraulic ram 19 and link rods 20, 21. To prevent the scoop rotating whilst in the digging position it is locked in said position by a cam-controlled tongue engaging a slot in the scoop. The front wheels are arranged to track in a less width than the width of the scoop.
