Abstract

596,441. Load-handling machines. BURGESS, A. F. (Wachter, L. W.). Feb. 26, 1945, No. 4758. [Class 78(iii)] [Also in Group XXI] A power-operated loading device on a vehicle comprises a pair of crossconnected triangular frame truss members pivoted at one end to bearing supports directly carried by one of the axles of the vehicle and pivotally carrying at the other end a loadcarrying device such as a bucket, and an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly for raising and lowering the truss members interposed between each truss member and the frame of the vehicle and operated by an engine carried by the vehicle. Figs. 1, 2 show the application to a tractor in which the device comprises frames 15 pivotally mounted at 12 on members 10 secured to the tractor driving axles 5, and a bucket 30 pivotally mounted at 19 on the frames. These frames are raised by piston rods 41 operating in cylinders 40 supported on brackets 37 connected to the tractor frame 3, pressure being supplied to the cylinders through a conduit 44 from a pump in the transmission housing 2. The bucket may pivot about its axis to discharge its contents by releasing a latch 26 which is mounted on a shaft 24 and engages a member 34 adjustably mounted on the part 31 of the bucket. The latch is operated through an arm 27 fixed on the shaft 24 and connected by a cable 28 to an arm 29 secured to one of the frames 15. The bucket may be replaced by a fork or rake.
