Abstract

658,579. Lever load-handling machines; vehicle fittings for loading and unloading. PETERS, J. E. June 2, 1949, No. 14886. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] A hydraulic hoist, more especially for fitment to refuse collecting vehicles, comprises a supporting framework, a hydraulic cylinder rotatably mounted in the framework on anti-friction bearings, a ram slidable in the cylinder, a cantilever support rigid with the top of the cylinder, a jib pivotally connected with the top of the ram, and a link connection between the rear end of the jib and the cantilever supports. The structure 1 shown rests on two angle irons 2, 2 secured to the chassis of a refuse collecting vehicle between the cab and the body and is built up from angle irons. It includes two platforms 3, 4 centrally apertured to receive a hydraulic cylinder 5 which is supported by a ball bearing 6 and a roller bearing 7. A rectangular flange 8 integral with the top of the cylinder 5 carries a cantilever support 9 built up from angle irons. A jib 12 fabricated frame angle irons is connected by a trunnion bearing 11 to a ram 10 sliding in the cylinder 5 and by an anchor bar 15 to a pair of links 17 pivoted to the support 9. The bar 15 projects at its ends through slots 16 in the links 17-and normally rests at the lower ends of the slots. Pressure fluid from a pump driven by the vehicle engine may be admitted under the control of a valve in the vehicle cab through a jointed pipe 19 to the cylinder 5. Upon extension of the ram 10, the rear end of the jib first rises until the bar 15 is at the upper end of the slots 15 and then the jib pivots about the bar 15 to raise a load connected by means of a hooked lifting chain 14 to a bar 13 on the jib.
