Abstract

671,332. Lift trucks; lifting dogs. WOOD, R. V. Aug. 6, 1948. [Aug. 22, 1947] No. 20881/48. Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv). A goods transporter comprises a steerable chassis carrying an elevator which is linked to a pair of levers capable of vertical sliding movement and a limited rotational movement so that an initial hoisting movement of the elevator turns the levers to grip a load and its subsequent hoisting movement raises the arms and the load. Arms 27 are integral with members 28 slidable and rotatable on posts 25 upstanding from a wheeled steerable chassis as shown, the posts 25 being joined at their upper ends by a plate 23 mounted at the top of fixed uprights 24. A pivot block 32 is mounted in trunnions 33, 34 at the rear of each member 28 and is connected bv a link 35 to a cross-head 26 on a piston 17 mounted in a hydraulic cylinder 16 and guided by a bearing 21 in a bracket 22 secured to the plate 23. A pump 18 operated through links bv a foot pedal may supply pressure liquid through a control valve 41 to the jack 16, 17 so that the links 35 first turn the arms 27 inwardly until they grip a load between them, or until stops on the links engage the cross-head 26, and then raise the arms and the load. The members 28 are supported on the posts 25 by bearings 29 and by thrust rollers 30. The chassis shown comprises side members having arcuate portions 6 adapted to engage under a reinforcing bulge on a fuel drum and straight portions 7 and joined by a rear member 8, and carries brackets 9 supporting wheels 10 and a swivelling bracket 11 carrying a castor wheel 12. A handle 13, 14 is pivoted on a horizontal axis to a bracket 15 secured to the bracket 11.
