774,162. Earth - excavating machines. ARNAL, F. R. July 4, 1955 [July 6, 1954], No. 19305/55. Class 68 (1). To permit of intermittent movement over the ground of a machine having a chassis A, a turntable B, a boom C, a tool-supporting arm D, and jacks F and G on modification of the angle at the apex of the boom C and arm D when the tool of the arm D is forced against the ground, the chassis A of the machine is supported on a pair of wheels 14 and is furthermore provided with an anchoring device for supporting in conjunction with the wheels 14 the chassis A when the tool e.g. a scoop, pick, or rammer, is out of contact with the ground. The wheels 14 are movable bodily and are capable of occupying in addition to the first position, that permits of the operation of the machine and the described movement of the chassis, a second position facilitating towing of the machine, in which the axis of the wheels is disposed nearer said plane and is substantially in vertical alignment with the centre of gravity of the whole machine. Each wheel may be mounted on a stub axle carried by a crank pivotally mounted on the chassis or on a common axle. The stub axles or the common axle can be held against the rear or an extension of the rear of the chassis or against suspension springs on the chassis.
