Abstract

1536299 Lowering vehicle bodies F SCHMIDT 15 Oct 1976 [17 Oct 1975] 42989/76 Heading B7D In a vehicle having a rise-and-fall loading area two torsion axles 12, 13 supporting wheels 4-7 by way of radius arms 8-11 have mounted between them jacks 17 which when actuated cause the axles to rotate in the same direction. As shown in Fig. 1 arms 18, 19 of different lengths rigidly mounted on respective axles are connected by rods 20 so that on collapse of jacks 17 the loading area is lowered and the rear axle 13 pivots through a larger degree than the forward axle 12 for the rear wheels 5, 7 to be raised higher than front wheels 4, 6, Fig. 3 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6, connecting rods 20 are omitted and abutments 26 on the chassis limit the pivotal movement of forward radius arms 8, 9 so that in the "down" position the rear wheels are raised out of contact with the ground. Jacks 17 may be replaced bv spindles.
