Abstract

650,201. Load-handling machines. HEIDENSTAM, E. J. VON. Oct. 22, 1948, No. 27535. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1947. [Class 78 (iii)] A hydraulic or pneumatic climb-fastener for lifting sliding moulds by climbing up a stationary, vertical member and provided with at least two sets of wedge claws with associated claw-heads, the claws being disposed vertically above each other and capable of moving relatively to each other as well as to the claimbing member, characterized in that the wedge-claws are laterally displaceable and/or angularly displaceable by ball-and-socket action in relation to each other in order that the wedge-claws may be able to adapt themselves to different deflections of the climb-iron loaded by the sliding mould. A climb-iron 1 is clasped by a climb-fastener provided with cross-plates 3 for supporting a sliding mould. The housing of the climb fastener comprises a lower cavity 5 enclosed by a cylindrical wall 6 and lower closure-plate 17 and having therein a lower set 7 of wedge-claws and claw-head 9. An intermediate space 10 is enclosed by a sleeve 11 and contains a piston 12. An upper space 13 is enclosed by a clawhead 14 within which is a set of claws 15. A ring 37 rests on the claw-head 9 and its upper surface is spherically shaped to fit the lower surface of the piston 12. The piston 12 fits a tube 38 fixed to a cover 52. A spring 43 rests on rings on the piston 12. Two inlet conduits 44, 45 supply pressure-fluid to the piston chamber. On the cover 52 is a spring 46 supporting the wedge-claws 15. The wedge-claws 7, 15 have saw-shaped surfaces 32 engaging the climbing iron 1 and a tapered surface 33. Fig. 2 shows three claw units engaging the climb-iron. To restrict the wedge action between the wedge claw and claw-head, contact is over a limited area. The units are joined by bearing pins 35 on which springs 36 are threaded. More than three claws may be used when desirable. The sleeve 11 and cylinder 6 are screwed together. The claw-head 14 screws onto a projection 22 on the cover 52, above the claw-head is a guide-ring 24 and a sealing rubber ring 25. On the base-plate 17, which has a diameter similar to that of the claw-head, is a coarse helical spring 26 supporting a ring 27 under the edge of the sleeve 11. The claw-head 9 rests on the ring 27 through a flange 28. The wedge-claws 7 rest on a spring 31 supported by rings mounted on the claw-head 9. In operation, the upper claws 15, normally with no pressure, carry the load. Pressure applied through the conduits acts upon the piston 12, on claws 7, causing them to clasp the climb-iron 1 urging the cylinder 11 upwards. The claws 15 lose their grip on the climb-iron and move upwardly, lifting the yoke and moulds through a suitable distance, when the pressure is allowed to fall and the wedge-claws 15 again grip the climb-iron. The spring 26 urges the piston 12 upwardly, the lower clawhead 9 releasing the claws 7. On further supply of pressure the yoke and moulds are again raised. To disengage the claws from the clawhead vibrations may be produced by striking the climb-iron 1 or by means of a spring washer 47 on the base-plate or by a number of spring washers.
