Abstract

649,870. Plate heat-exchangers. KVIST, A., and ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAG. Sept. 3, 1948, No. 23225. [Classes 64(ii)'and 64(iii)] In a heat-exchanger comprising one or more tubes of substantially uniform crosssection, each tube is formed from a single plate, longitudinally folded and jointed by welding 3 along the longitudinal marginal edge, Figs. 4 and 5, or from two opposed plates of sheet metal jointed by welding along their marginal edges 2, Fig. 3, the joint areas in the folded plate or in opposed plates being flat and in one plane so that very little resistance is offered when the tube is bent along its longitudinal axis, the folded plate or opposed plates being provided across part of their width with one or more rows of transverse corrugations 1 such that one or more undulating passages of substantially constant cross-section are formed throughout the length of the tube. When used as heating radiators the flexibility of the tubes enables them to be mounted on curved surfaces. Specification 6971, [Class 64(ii)], is referred to.
