Abstract
909,142. Plate heat exchangers. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 1868/60. Class 64 (3). A plate heat exchanger includes a pair of metal plates 12 spaced apart to provide a fluid passageway 14 within which is mounted a heatexchanging surface 18 comprising a metallic mesh corrugated into a continuous U-shape, the yoke portions being flattened to provide areas in contact with the plates, and the strands of the mesh being arranged diagonally to the yokes so that all wires participate equally in the heat transfer. The yokes are bonded to the respective plates by brazing, welding or adhesives. Fluid-flow may be either parallel or perpendicular to the corrugations, and closure pieces may be arranged to join the upper and lower edges of the plates on appropriate sides.
