Abstract

1,207,016. Plate heat exchangers. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. 3 Sept., 1969 [6 Sept., 1968], No. 42606/68. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger plate 1 having an unperforated port zone 7 surrounded by recesses 3 and 5 carrying gasket portions 4 and 6 includes a supporting and reinforcing element 8 secured to the plate in the unperforated port zone 7. The reinforcing element has a flat zone coplanar with the base of the gasket recesses 3 and 5. The plate is for use in a stack wherein the majority of plates have the zone 7 inside the gaskets 4 and 6 removed to form a through port. As shown the reinforcing element 8 comprises a disc of metal welded to the plate. Alternatively the element may be in the form of a ring (9, Figs. 3, 4) held in place by a retainer (10) attached, e.g. by welding, to the plate. The ring may be stepped (see Figs. 5, 6). In another arrangement (Figs. 7, 8) the retainer is so constructed that the reinforcing disc or ring can be removed for inspection or cleaning purposes.
