Abstract
750,303. Regenerative heat-exchangers. BEAVIS, M. C. HARTNELL-. May 3, 1954 [Feb. 2, 1953], No. 2928/53. Class 64(1). A heat-storing element for a regenerative heat-exchanger comprises alternating corrugated and flat sheets of ceramic or glass mounted face to face to provide through passages of small hydraulic diameter preferably between 0.010 and 0.050 inches. An element may be housed in an open frame made up of flanged metallic strip 11, Fig. 2, and blocks 24 of heatstoring elements may be mounted in a rectangular container 21, 22 as shown in Fig. 3. In this arrangement, although all the elements are similar in form, individual elements may be made of materials selected to withstand the various working temperatures prevailing between the " hot " and " cold " terminal faces of the block. Steel, ceramic, cupro-nickel and glass are given as examples. Adjacent elements in the block are spaced apart by the thickness of the frame flanges of individual elements. A sheet of fine gauze may be placed between contiguous elements in the block.
