Abstract

1,274,211. Thermal regenerators. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 31 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968; 19 June, 1968; 25 Oct., 1968], Nos. 16047/68, 29296/68 and 50888/68. Heading F4K. [Also in Divisions C1 and C7] A regenerative heat exchanger disc of silicon nitride is made by forming green sheets of a mix comprising silicon powder, polyvinyl butyral, dibutyl phthalate and methyl ethyl ketone, corrugating a sheet between corrugating rollers and sticking this corrugated sheet to a plane sheet by heat and pressure. The plane side of the double sheet formed is coated with an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol containing 30 wt. per cent of silicon powder and the sheet rolled up. The green disc formed is cured at 200‹ C. in air and after grinding its faces smooth is heated in nitrogen to remove the binder and produce a cylinder of silicon nitride having passages therethrough.
