Abstract

982,138. Plate type heat exchangers. SEPARATOR A.B. Aug. 9, 1962, No. 30540/62. Heading F4S. A sealing device fitted between the plates of a plate-type heat-exchanger comprises an endless frame of rigid material 3 having inner and outer edges, the frame acting as a spacing element, and having longitudinal grooves 4, 5 laterally offset with respect to one another and bearing surfaces 16, 17 directly opposite each other and positioned between the grooves and the outside edge of the frame, the bearing surfaces are wide enough to prevent tilting when clamped in position; sealing strips 6, 7 are fitted in the grooves, the strips being of such a cross-section that they do not completely fill the grooves. As shown, the frame may have bearing surfaces on both sides of the grooves and the surfaces may be metal. The grooves may be formed in the frame by milling, rolling, drawing or continuous pressing. Figs. 2 to 6 (not shown) indicate various types of grooves.
