Abstract

A hair-waving composition comprises a neutralized mercaptan, e.g. sodium thio-glycollate, a free inorganic base, and a diamine derivative which has reducing and acidic properties, e.g. hydrazine sulphate. Calcium or aluminium hydroxide or guanidine may be used to neutralize the mercaptan. It may be used as a paste, cream, emulsion, jelly or liquid by the addition of suitable substances (see Group VI). The composition may contain, e.g., a salt of a sulphated alcohol, sorbiton monostearate, borax, beeswax, polyoxyalkylene sorbitan monostearate, polyvinyl alcohol, starch tetraacetate, sodium starch glycollate, bentonite, alginates, cellulose esters or ethers, bile acid salts, hexamethylene di-isocyanate, n-propenyl allophanate, or the sodium salt of carboxymethyl - amylo - pectin. Specification 593,438, [Group VI], is referred to.ALSO:A depilatory comprises a neutralized mercaptan, a free inorganic base and a diamine derivative which is of an acid and reducing action. In the example, sodium thioglycollate, aluminium hydroxide, and hydrazine sulphate are used. Guanidine may also be used to neutralize the mercaptan. To prepare an emulsion of the depilatory anionic agents, e.g. salts of sulphated fatty alcohols, non-ionic agents or blends of the two, e.g. sorbitan monostearate and polyoxyalkylene sorbitan monostearate or borax, beeswax and polyoxyalkylene sorbitan monostearate may be used. Other additions specified are hydrated alumina, water dispersible polyvinyl alcohol, starch tetra acetate, sodium starch glycollate, bentonite, alginates, cellulose ethers and esters, sodium carboxymethyl amyls, pectin, bile acid salts, hexamethylene di-isocyanate, n-propenyl allephanate and sulphated or sulphonated compounds to serve as wetting agents.
