Abstract

A therapeutic preparation for topical treatment of trichomonas vaginalis vaginitis, comprises say 1/4 to 1 1/2 per cent 2-amino-5-nitrothiazole or 2-acylamino-5-nitrothiazole, the acyl group having up to 12 carbon atoms e.g. acetyl, propionyl, butyryl, caproyl, lauroyl, distributed in a vehicle which is semiliquid at body temperature; the vehicle may be a gelatinous or water-dispersible colloid or a cream-like aqueous oleaginous emulsion, or in the form of a suppositary. The preferred vehicle is a viscous aqueous gel comprising one or more cellulose derivatives e.g. methyl, hydroxy-ethyl, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose; acacia, tragacanth, bentonites, alginic acid, pectin and sodium alginate are also specified. The pH of the preparation should be between 4 and 7,5. Examples of preparations are given.
