Abstract

648,941. Cutting paper. GALE & HAYCRAFT, Ltd. Sept. 3, 1948, No. 23270. [Class 31 (i)] A device for separating perforated continuous stationery comprises, as shown in Fig. 3, an elongated slotted die 15 over which the stationery passes, an elongated severing member 19 which co-operates with the die and which is narrower than the slot and free from contact with the edges thereof so that it may enter the die freely, gripping devices 30 which cooperate with the sides of the die so as to grip the stationery and retain it in position bridging the die, and mechanical means which actuate the severing member and gripping devices. The gripping devices and the blade are actuated by link and lever mechanism (not shown), connected by operating cables to that portion of the machine which prints the stationery, so that printing and severing take place simultaneously. The gripping devices and the blade are released by trip mechanism immediately the blade has completed the severing operation. The blade 19 has a slot through which the stationery passes, and the upper edge 29 of the slot separates the stationery by a tearing action.
