Abstract

352,252. Cutting paper &c. BIAGOSCH, K., 32, Karl Krause Strasse, Leipsic, Germany. July 9, 1930, No. 20805. [Class 31 (i).] Guillotine machines.-In a machine for cutting a printed sheet into labels &c., the work is fed to a cutter by means of a clutch held in operative position by a detent, and the detent is freed when a selected and variable length has been fed by a light sensitive device or other means. The pile of sheets 2 is fed on a table 1 to a knife 24 by a gauge 3 moved by a band 4 from a worm 6. Operation of a handlever 9 controls clutch arms 15, 30 for a reversible drive. The clutch 10 for the feeding movement is thrown in by a lever 12 actuated by a cam 13 and the arm 15 is held by a detent 16. When printed marks on the edge of the sheet pass under a light sensitive device 39, Fig. 7, the current through the anode circuit of a valve 40 is decreased and a solenoid 42 releases an armature 43 to energize solenoids 18, 21. The solenoid 18 releases the detent 16 which throws out the clutch and the solenoid 21 releases a detent &c. 22 to allow a spring to move' the device 8 to an inoperative position. The detent 16 closes a contact 25 to energize a solenoid 26 to actuate the knife 24 through a rod 45. When the knife reaches the top of its stroke a cam 27 actuates the rod 28 to reposition the device 8 and the cam 13 actuates the lever 12 to re-engage the clutch for the next feed movement. A cam 29 on the wheel 14 breaks the circuit in the solenoid 26 of the knife-actuating clutch. When the gauge 3 reaches its forward position a master switch is opened and the gauge is moved to its starting position by actuation of the lever 9. In a modification, the sheet may be printed with electrically conductive metallic colours which may close contact between feelers in the circuit of the solenoid 42, Fig. 8, not shown. In a further modification adjustable contacts on the pulley may be used instead of the feelers. In a further modification the detent 16 is released mechanically by adjustable abutments on the pulley engaging a lever, Fig. 5, not shown.
