Abstract
648,938. Discharging static electricity. BELLING & LEE, Ltd. Aug. 9, 1948, No. 20983. [Class 35] [Also in Group XL (c)] A device for modifying corona discharge from aerials or objects in close proximity thereto (e.g. aircraft carrying aerials) and used for suppressing radio interference (see Group XL (c)), comprises a wick 9 of high resistance filaments, such as carbon impregnated vegetable fibres or fine highresistance metallic wires, secured to a binding post 8 on a metal shank 5, the lower portion 3 being formed as a plug for insertion in a hole at the discharge point on the aerial or other conductor. The device is protected from the weather by an insulating hood 7 fitting on to an insulating base 6 moulded on the shank 5. The hood may be hermetically sealed in position. It is stated that the finely-divided discharge from the filament tips is not prevented by the presence of the hood.
