Abstract
577,750. Aerials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CAMPBELL, G. C. L., and GRIMBALDESTON, W. March 1, 1943, No. 3316. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group X] An aerial installation for vehicles comprises a metal base 1 adapted to be secured to the vehicle and an aerial 5 pivotally mounted thereon so as to be capable of moving angularly, when it meets an obstruction, under the control of springs 28 connected to the aerial and the base. The aerial 6, 7 may be part of a " folded dipole," the ends being carried by the pivot pin 8. The tubular limbs 6, 7 may be of different diameter, one limb 7 being. insulated from the pivot pin through which the other limb 6 is electrically connected to the base 1, which acts as a reflector so that the combination of the base and a quarter-wave aerial acts as a half-wave aerial. The feeder cable is plugged into a socket 42 within the vehicle, the pin 41 being connected outside the vehicle to a pin 36 engaging a socket 37 (in axial alignment with the pivot 8) and connected by a strip 21 to the limb 7. The pin and socket 36, 37 are screened by a shield 38.
