Abstract
592,763. Aerials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and POLGREEN, G. R. April 13, 1945, No. 9296. [Class 40 (v)] The conducting element of an aerial is loaded magnetically with a sleeve of low-loss magnetic material to increase the inductance of the aerial and the effective resonant frequency of the aerial is varied by relative movement of the sleeve and conductor. A dipole rod 1 is mounted to slide within conducting bushings 4 and 5 secured in a tube 3 of insulating material, A number of cylindrical pressings 2 of magnetic powder are cemented to the inside of the tube 3. The tube 3 is supported, by means of an extension of the bushing 4 and an additional support 7, on a hollow metal mast 6 which serves as the outer conductor of a concentric feeder, the inner conductor 8 of which is connected to the bushing 5. The position of the rod 1 within its sleeve may be varied by hand or automatically, the distance between the bushings 4 and 5 being selected so that the aerial is matched to the feeder. The arrangement may be modified so that the aerial may be adjusted to lie in various directions with respect to the mast 6.
