[Class 38 (i)] A cap for a tubular lamp 5 comprises an insulating disc 1, surrounded by a metal skirt 2 which is applied to the lamp, the disc having a central aperture in which is secured one end of a tubular shell 3, the other end thereof being spun over to form a flange 4. The latter and the shell form one lamp contact, the other contact comprising a metal disc 8 held central relative to the flange 4 by insulating material 7. The cap may comprise a simple disc wholly of insulating material and the shell may be surrounded by an insulating sleeve which projects beyond the outer end thereof so as to screen the contacts, Fig. 2 (not shown). A holder for a cap of the type first mentioned comprises a moulded housing 12 within which an insulating member 14 is carried at the end of a spring 16 and centrally socketted at 14a to receive the lamp contacts, said socket being surrounded by a skirt 15 bent to form an annular contact 22 which engages the flange 4 on the lamp cap, the skirt also being engaged by the spring 16 which in turn engages a strip contact 17. Disposed centrally of contact 22 is a contact 18 engaging the lamp contact 8, a further spring 19 engaging said contact 18 and also bearing on a further strip contact 20, said strips 17, 20 forming the holder terminals. The shell 3 may be formed so as to present a point contact to the annular contact 22 or alternatively the latter contact may be so formed. Specification 1072/05, [Class 39], is referred to.
