Abstract
647,969. Stoppers; can-openers; lids. JOHNSTON, F. G. Dec. 3, 1947, No. 31888. [Classes 66 and 125(iii)] A sanitary punch cover comprises a cap 10, with a depending flange 11, one or more spring clips 15 extending through openings 17 in the flange for exerting pressure against the side of the can. and one or more doubly - tapered pins 14 by means of which the can top is punctured and sealed. Each clip may be formed as a loop 16 at the end of a strap 13 extending across the top of the cap as shown in Fig. 3, or it may be a flat spring 20 anchored at one end at 21 and free at the other and having a boss 23, Figs. 5 and 6. The cap flange may be flattened as at 11a, Figs. 1, 2, and 4 (not shown), to prevent the cap rolling when placed on its side. A gasket 19 may be provided to cover the inner surface of the cap peripherally, as shown, or entirely.
